Algeria's traveltech VOLZ secures $5M in Series A funding

Algerian traveltech startup VOLZ has achieved a significant milestone by raising $5 million in a Series A funding round, marking a transformative moment for the country's growing tech ecosystem. The funding round, led by a consortium of private investors under Tell Group, also saw participation from Groupe GIBA, a well-known industrial group in Algeria.

A Record-Setting Deal

The announcement, made during the African Startup Conference in Algiers in December 2025, highlighted VOLZ’s historic accomplishment. This funding represents the largest startup funding round in Algeria's local currency and also marks the first successful exit for the Algerian Startup Fund (ASF). ASF, established in October 2020, achieved an impressive return of more than 3.35 times its initial investment in this deal.

A Disruptive Player in Traveltech

Founded in 2023 by Mohamed Abdelhadi Mezi and Hacene Seghier, VOLZ has rapidly gained traction by addressing the local market’s unique needs. The platform allows travellers to book flights in Algerian dinars, offering flexibility with both online payments and cash-on-delivery options. Users can compare multiple airlines through a single interface, making travel more accessible and convenient. Over the past year, VOLZ has achieved growth of more than 1,000%, a testament to its innovative and consumer-focused approach.

"This funding round marks a new milestone for VOLZ. It allows us to accelerate our mission: to empower Algerian travellers by making travel simpler, clearer, and more accessible. We thank ASF for its historic role in our beginnings and welcome our new investors with ambition and responsibility", said Mohamed Abdelhadi Mezi, CEO of VOLZ.

Fuel for Expansion

With this new influx of funding, VOLZ plans to expand its operations within Algeria by launching new consumer and corporate travel products. The company also aims to extend its presence across North and West Africa, aspiring to become the leading travel app in the region.

The startup’s next steps include rolling out a corporate travel product aimed at helping businesses streamline and optimise their travel needs. VOLZ’s hybrid service model, which integrates local payment methods, premium customer service, and multi-airline booking capabilities, positions it uniquely to cater to the region's travellers.

A Promising Future

The success of this funding round not only underscores VOLZ's potential but also reflects the growing confidence in Algeria's startup ecosystem. As VOLZ continues to build on its mission of "Giving Back the Power to the Traveller", its efforts may set a precedent for other Algerian startups aiming to make their mark locally and beyond.
