Metamindz ("us", "we", or "our") operates the https://metamindz.co.uk website (hereinafter referred to as the "Service").

This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service and the choices you have associated with that data. We use your data to provide and improve the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Types of Data Collected

Personal Data

While using our Service, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you ("Personal Data"). Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to:

  • Email address
  • First name and last name
  • Phone number
  • Cookies and Usage Data

Usage Data

We may also collect information how the Service is accessed and used ("Usage Data"). This Usage Data may include information such as your computer's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

Tracking & Cookies Data

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track the activity on our Service and hold certain information.

Metamindz uses the collected data for various purposes:

  • To provide and maintain the Service
  • To notify you about changes to our Service
  • To allow you to participate in interactive features of our Service when you choose to do so
  • To provide customer care and support
  • To provide analysis or valuable information so that we can improve the Service
  • To monitor the usage of the Service
  • To detect, prevent and address technical issues

Transfer of Data

Your information, including Personal Data, may be transferred to, and maintained on, computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ than those from your jurisdiction.

  • To prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service

Security of Data

The security of your data is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Service Providers

We may employ third party companies and individuals to facilitate our Service ("Service Providers"), to provide the Service on our behalf, to perform Service-related services or to assist us in analysing how our Service is used. These third parties have access to your Personal Data only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

Analytics

We may use third-party Service Providers to monitor and analyse the use of our Service.

Google Analytics: Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google uses the data collected to track and monitor the use of our Service. This data is shared with other Google services. Google may use the collected data to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network. You can opt-out of having made your activity on the Service available to Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The add-on prevents the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js, analytics.js, and dc.js) from sharing information with Google Analytics about visits activity. Microsoft Clarity: Microsoft Clarity is a web analytics service offered by Microsoft. Microsoft uses the data collected to track and monitor the use of our Service. Google Tag Manager: Google Tag Manager is a tag management system offered by Google. Google Tag Manager does not itself collect personal data. The system causes other tags to be activated which may, for their part, collect data. Google Tag Manager does not access this data. If a deactivation has been made at the domain or cookie level, it will remain in effect for all tracking tags implemented with Google Tag Manager. MMDZ

This section covers MMDZ, the Markdown editor for Mac, and its pages at metamindz.co.uk/mmdz. The controller is METAMINDZ LIMITED, Hale House, 76 Portland Place, London W1B 1NT. Contact us at hello@metamindz.co.uk.

The app

  • MMDZ works entirely on your Mac. Your documents are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
  • It has no accounts, analytics, advertising identifiers, crash reporting or telemetry.
  • At most once a day it checks for updates by requesting https://metamindz.co.uk/downloads/mmdz/latest.json, and it downloads an update when you accept one. The request carries nothing about you or your documents, but like any web request it reveals your IP address to our hosting provider, Vercel, which logs it. You can turn the check off in Settings, About, Updates.
  • If a document links to an image on the internet, showing the document fetches that image from wherever it is hosted, as any Markdown viewer does.
  • Its settings are stored on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/co.metamindz.mmdz/.

Downloading MMDZ

To download MMDZ you give us your email address and accept our terms. We record the address, the time, the version, the page you came from, and whether it is a work or a personal address, and we use them to:

  • email you the download link, which you asked for;
  • keep a record of downloads and of your acceptance of the terms, in our legitimate interest in running and protecting the service;
  • if it is a work address, send you occasional emails about MMDZ and our other products and services, in our legitimate interest in business-to-business marketing. You can object at any time by replying to any of our emails or writing to hello@metamindz.co.uk. We do not send these emails to personal addresses.

These details are kept in our CRM (Attio) and our leads database (Notion), a notification goes to our team chat (Slack), and emails are sent through Resend. The site is hosted by Vercel. These providers process the data on our behalf, and some of them are based in the United States (see Transfer of Data above). We keep your details until you ask us to delete them, or until we no longer need them for these purposes.

To stop abuse, the site counts requests from each IP address in a database (Redis), and keeps each count for no more than two days. When you fill in the form, the page also sets a cookie called mmdz_dl so that the download link works for you. It contains no identifier, only the value 1, and lasts a year.

Sending MMDZ to a friend

If you ask us to send MMDZ to someone, we use their email address once, to send the email through Resend, with your name and your note in it. We only send to work email addresses. We do not add the recipient to any list or to our CRM. So that nobody receives it twice within 30 days, we keep a keyed one-way hash of their address, which cannot be turned back into the address, for 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the data we hold about you, and object to our use of it, including for marketing, at any time. Write to hello@metamindz.co.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
